Understanding the Archetype

Purrely is a deck based on cute, cat-themed monsters with effects that generate card advantage by using 1-card combos, special summoning, and spell/trap cards to attach materials to your main XYZ monsters. The main strategy involves building up resources and creating a big hard monster to get rid of going first, going 2nd you want to aim to OTK them.

Strengths

  • Easy to pick up and play, and also has a very high skill ceiling

  • Fantastic grind game

  • Works well with plenty of different tech options and can play either breakers or hand traps

  • Very budget at the moment

  • Cute cat monsters (if you’re into that)

Weaknesses

  • Certain Quick-play spells need targets on board to be used.

  • Weak to Droll and Lock Bird. Hard to play with only Purrelyly as the sole monster under Droll

  • Usually makes one towers monster so can be outed by Kaiju’s

  • Reliant on continuous spell and field spell presence for recursion

 Notable Core Purrely Cards

Expurrely Noir

Monsters:

  • Purrely: Spoiler alert. There are only two monsters in the archetype, and Purrely is one of them! Not only is this cat able to excavate your deck for your powerful quick play spells or Purrelyeap!? It can transform into one of your Epurrely XYZ monsters depending on which memories you have in hand.

  • Purrelyly: The other starter in the archetype, able to search for Purrely cards other than the quick play spells. Purrelyly can also be used as material for an Epurrely XYZ monster, but this one depends on which memories you have in the graveyard.

Extra Deck:

These cards are mainly summoned using the level 1 Purrely monster effects to summon an xyz Purrely based on the Purrely quick-play spells you choose that correspond to the correct XYZ Purrely. All of the Epurrely XYZ can chain to the activations of Purrely quick play spells, to attach the activated spell as material and proceed to use an effect specific to each Epurrely.

  • Epurrely Beauty: Associated with the quick play spell Purrely Pretty Memory, This card allows you to target negate a face-up opponent's monster for the turn. If a Pretty Memory is attached it has the added benefit of having the ability to have a quick effect.

  • Epurrely Happiness: Your OTK enabler, and strongest damage potential in the deck. Its ability to search for a quick play spell at the end of the damage step, pairs extremely well with the Purrely quick play spells, allowing you to abuse Delicious Memory and Happy Memory to either help you clear the board, or OTK your opponent if they’ve left a monster foolishly up in ATK position.

  • Epurrely Plump: This card is summoned with the lower level Purrely’s using “Purrely Delicious Memory.” This is a good card to end on if you can’t end on “Epurrely Noir,” just make sure you have a couple of set Purrely Quick-Play spell cards as its effect when a Purrely Quick Play spell is activated, lets you banish 1 monster on the field until the end phase.

  • Epurrely Noir: This card is summoned with the lower level Purrely’s using “Purrely Sleepy Memory.” This card lets you return up to two monsters your opponent controls and return them to their hand by discarding a card from your hand as cost. The main effect people use for this is to search for “Purrelyeap!?” When a Purrely Quick-Play spell card is activated.

  • ExPurrely Noir: This is your boss monster because it acts as a tower (it can’t be affected by any of your opponent's activated effects while it has 5 or more materials) that makes it hard for your opponent to deal with. It also has an effect to detach two materials to target one card your opponent controls or is in their graveyard, and place it on the bottom of the deck. While this card has a level 1 Purrely monster attached, this is a quick effect.

  • ExPurrely Happiness: This card is used to help OTK your opponent. It can be summoned by using a Purrely xyz monster with 5 or more materials attached. During your main phase, you can use this card to negate the effects of all face-up monsters your opponent currently controls by detaching a material. Your opponent also can’t activate card effects in response to this card as long as it has a level 1 Purrely monster attached. When an attack is declared using this card while it has 5 or more materials, you can inflict 1500 damage to your opponent.

Spells:

Purrely Quick-Play spells have a unique gimmick. After activation all of them have the option to allow you to cheat out a Purrely/Purrelyly from the deck by discarding a card from hand, instantly turning any quick play spell into a starter. Additionally, when these quick play spells are attached as XYZ material they provide the XYZ monster with powerful effects. All of these additive effects are once per turn, BUT each copy of the memories, counts as a separate ability, allowing you to use them multiple times depending on how many you have attached.

  • Purrely Delicious Memory: Choose 1 monster on the field, and until the end of the next turn, it cannot be destroyed by battle.

    • When Equipped to an XYZ monster that monster gains 300 atk/def for each material attached to it

  • Purrely Happy Memory: Choose 1 card on the field, and until the end of the next turn, the first time it would be destroyed by a card effect, it is not destroyed.

    • When Equipped to an XYZ monster that monster can attack monsters up to the number of “Purrely Happy Memory” attached +1

  • Purrely Sleepy Memory: The next battle or effect damage you take this turn will become 0.

    • When Equipped to an XYZ monster, during your Standby Phase: You can draw 1 card

  • Purrely Pretty Memory: Each player gains 1000LP

    • When Equipped to an XYZ monster, you can send 1 other card you control to the GY then target 1 card your opponent controls; attach it to this card as a material

  • My Friend Purrely: This card is a continuous spell that lets you pick 3 Purrely cards from your deck and your opponent picks one randomly for you to add to your hand for the cost of 500LP. If a Purrely monster you control leaves the field because of an opponent’s card, you can add up to 3 Purrely quick-play spells with your name from your graveyard.

This is your main searcher card and super important to get out early so when a Purrely xyz monster dies you can recurse your quick play spells for the next turn.

  • Stray Purrely Street: This is the field spell that protects your special summoned Purrely monsters that are summoned this turn from your opponent targeting them. This card also lets you summon a level 1 Purrely monster from your Deck or GY when a Purely xyz monster leaves the field, giving you a powerful way to respond to your opponent the next turn. A very special effect of this card that people sometimes forget about is its ability to attach any quick play Purrely spell from your graveyard to a Purrely XYZ monster you control on the field during EACH end phase, meaning this can trigger on your opponent's turn if they leave a Purrely xyz monster on the field.

Traps:

  • Purrelyeap!?: This is the only Purrely Trap card you need so far and it helps the deck so much. This card lets you special summon a xyz Purrely monster that is a different rank than the one you have on the field and attach that other xyz and all its materials to the newer one. This card is mainly used to summon “ExPurrely Noir”, the Purrely’s boss monster.

When you use “Purrelyeap!?” on your opponent's standby phase after you draw a card from “Purrely Sleepy Memory,” you can draw again after summoning the newer bigger Purrely because “Purrely Sleepy Memory” sees the new Purrely a new monster and triggers again.

Basic Strategy

  1. Early Game Setup:

    • Start by getting My Friend Purrely on the field + a level 1 Purrely to start your combo to get one of your XYZ Purrely monsters. You want to end the board with a “My Friend Purrely,” “Purrely Stray Street,” “Purrelyeap!?,” and a Purrely xyz monster on the field.

  2. Win-Con:

    • You want to outlast your opponent by recurring your Purrely Quick-Play spells when your XYZ monsters leave the field.

Combos and Synergies

  • Purrely - Cute Cat + Purrely’s Charm: Use Cute Cat’s effect to search out additional Purrely cards and set up your plays.

  • Purrely - Playful Pup + Purrely’s Prism: Draw extra cards and protect your monsters from destruction.

Hand Trap Considerations

This deck has a very small and very consistent engine which enables you to play many hand traps.

  • Ghost Mourner & Moonlit Chill - Stops your opponent from link climbing by negating a monster's effect when it's special summoned, and when it leaves the field its controller takes damage equal to its original attack.

  • Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit - When a monster on the field activates their effect, or when a spell or trap card that is already on the field activates its effects, you can destroy it.

  • Effect Veiler - Negates a face-up monster on your opponent's field on their turn until the end phase.

  • Droll & Lock Bird - Stops your opponent from drawing/searching for more cards from their deck. Very good in this format with the amount of 1 card starters.

  • Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring - Stops your opponent from special summoning from their deck or searching for a card from their deck.

  • Infinite Impermanence - Negates a face-up monster on your opponent's field. This card is a trap card but can be played from your hand as long as you control no cards on the field.

Matchups and Tips

  • Against Aggro Decks: Use your traps to stall and protect your life points while setting up your board.

  • Against Control Decks: Focus on maintaining your resources and spin Skill Drain on its Activation using ExPurrely Noir’s effect.

  • Against Combo Decks: Create ExPurrely Noir as soon as possible.
